The main purpose of any Taoist (Daoist) practice is to accumulate, develop, and restore the three energies of jing, qi, and shen.

These energies are what Daoists call the Three Treasures:

• Jing is the sexual/regenerative energy of a human being and relates to the physical energy generated, in part, from the fluids of the body.

• Qi is the energy of the breath, or oxygen, in the body, which gives warmth and energy to survive, as well as animating our movements.

• Shen is the spirit, or consciousness, making it possible to reason and process information experienced. The shen also is what allows a person to experience sensations of the body.

  As we undergo the physical and psychological changes from childhood to adulthood during puberty, the energies of our body, breath, and mind are at their peak in order to make this transformation.
